Skiing

Bob is an enthusiastic wild country skier. He lives in sight of Cairn Gorm with its superb opportunities for ski- touring. Some highlights elsewhere have been to ski widely in the Alps and to visit Svalbard, Greenland, Norway, Finland and Alaska.

The best ski tours all have an element of the unexpected - an attempt to climb the Gran Paradiso was abandoned in the face of bad weather and instead we had a magnificent descent in zero visibility but perfect snow down its wild eastern slopes to the unmanned Rifugio Pontese which was a mere 10 metres below the cloud...

As part of the European Avalanche School he would spend part of each winter based in the wild snow paradise of La Grave in the Ecrins in the French Alps.
